Journalism, Take 2

I’ve been trying to write for the Orient, Bowdoin’s College Newspaper, this fall. Because I’m new to the group, I don’t know that I’ll be writing regularly for the Orient but, if someone likes my articles enough, I’ll be writing at least periodically. My first article was printed this Friday the 11th. Link is below. [...]

Living in the Moment

Apart from when I took classes in a Korean form of karate–Tae Soo Do–back in middle school, my only experience with meditation or meditation like things was part of my time in Sri Lanka. We went to a meditation center which was filled with mostly white people and a few Sri Lankans that seemed to [...]

Bowdoin: The Fall (Part 2)

August 7, 2009admin No Comments »

So last time I left, I was going over all the exciting things that are going on this fall at college. Generally speaking I was excited to commit myself to reading every book and writing great papers, and I’d already talked about how excited I am to regularly go to the craft center and do [...]

Bowdoin: The Fall (Part 1)

July 27, 2009admin 3 Comments »

I’ll try and grab one of the many different trains of thought I started in my most recent blog restarting. That is Bowdoin and this fall.

I’ve probably said this to myself every year since second grade, but I don’t know how sincere I was before college. Every July and August, I recommit myself to getting everything turned in on time, reading all of my books, writing great papers well before the deadline, etc. I would say I’ve gotten better at these basic tasks since Freshman year. To be fair, there have been some very real stumbling blocks in the past two years and I don’t expect that to be much different (though I can hope). But I can, as always, sense a renewed zest for achieving. I want to make sure I read every book cover to cover and spend less time staring at my computer screen. I want to start my papers at least a few days before their due, whether that be in outline or real draft, I want to participate more fully in class, and prepare more for (the few) tests I have.

And you think that that’s all the spam since I updated last. If only. In a moment of public blog reflectiveness (something I try to keep to a minimum), I am re-committing to the blog concept. While this is no longer a travel blog, I still have use for reflecting and keeping a greater number [...]

Three more posts below, and the last of my posts from Sri Lanka. Maybe when I am rich and famous in a few years, someone will want to make a book of my posts from Sri Lanka. Or, if I’m not rich and famous, I’ll make a book from my posts and try and pawn [...]

“It was the Best of Times…”

May 15, 2009admin 1 Comment »

I’ve been trying to think of the best way to wrap up my semester abroad and this blog. Not that the blog will end, but the content will undoubtedly shift significantly. A week or two or three after I get back, I hope to have some serious reflection to do as I put some of [...]
